I started this painting while teaching an art class for kids. I was showing them how to create different spaces on board, then plan out color schemes and blend between areas to achieve diversity within a unified framework. I love teaching kids and miss that activity. One of my former students, who happens to be my daughter, took additional classes while growing up and is now a better oil painter than I am - yea!! (I say that genuinely, not sarcastically). I was going for an oriental feel with this one and liked the real-wood 'fence' that seems as if it can double as oriental script in an abstract sort of way.
